Kiwi Retreat is a large (about 100 m2) 2-bedroom holiday apartment designed to be the palce where you take a break – be that time out with the family, a small group, as a couple – or as a professional get-away to write. The bedrooms are equipped with large desks for creative work.
The flat features a large lounge room with a large outdoor terrace looking into nature. A dining room with a large table (and a child seat if required), kitchen, and bathroom (with a bathtub) offer simple conveniences with a very New Zealand style. Birds and squirrels are regular visitors.
The surroundings – Bad Urach and the Biosphere Reserve Swabian Alb are ideal for hiking, biking, and visiting the beautiful outdoor swimming pool (Höhenfreibad, May-September), the thermal baths (AlbThermen, year-round or the Bad Urach Waterfall.
There is no shortage of activities for families, outdoor enthusiasts, or visitors interested in culinary experiences, culture, or shopping.
It would be our pleasure to host you at KiwiRetreat and share some of our beautiful home environment and experiences with you.

Our Story
KiwiReteat was established in 2023 following an extensive renovation of the house by the current owners, a Swabian-New Zealand family. The house is built in 1937 and used to be the staff house of the neighbouring Künkele’s Mühle. After two decades of international travel as academics working on solar energy and water engineering, we have made Bad Urach our home and fulfilled our dream to live in nature. The large gardens adjacent to the River Erms are private, but the BBQ can be used on request.
KiwiRetreat is family-operated – our four children help with welcoming guests and looking after the place – and we will be happy to share some of our favourite activities with you or share a drink if we are around.
